Thou Shalt Not Kill

That is a straightforward understandable commandment in Exodus chapter 20 from our Creator. But in our world today many try to make it cloudy for themselves and for one another. For instance, in the issue of abortion. The issue is often called a choice. Let*s consider the truth about what the choices are. The choice is letting something live or killing it. The issue is not whether it is a baby or a fetus. The issue is whether it is alive or not. Whether it is called a baby or a fetus, it is demonstrably alive and growing. Thou shalt not kill therefore applies. It is alive and growing from the moment of conception. The issue is not whether the baby is viable and can survive outside the womb. The issue is whether or not it is alive. Some might wonder why a loving God would permit a baby to result from a rape. Some might wonder why God would permit His only begotten Son to die for the sins of a rapist. The fact is that Jesus died for the sins of the rapist and for the sins of the innocent baby too. Given time they will both be proven to be sinners in need of forgiveness.

Encouraging mothers to kill their babies is wrong. Making it legal and easy for them to kill their babies or have them killed is wrong. Whether or not the mother wants the baby is not the issue either. The issue is whether or not the baby is alive. Whether the mother is happy or miserable is not the issue. The issue is whether or not the baby is alive. Those truths can sound heartless but there are many mothers who had an abortion and when it is too late, their own hearts become broken over it. Some might have a seared conscience and not be troubled about it until after their own death. At some point, all of them will wish they had not had an abortion.

Assume for a moment that your father raped your mother and the result was your conception. Would that mean that you should be killed for his crime? That would be killing an innocent person. Should a mother hate her baby because it*s father is a rapist?

Whether a baby is conceived by two loving parents or not, God created that baby and gave it life. He does not owe us an explanation about why that happened. He created and owns that baby and He is the only one who should decide when its life will be over. He is a loving God, and an all-wise God. We must believe those things about Him no matter what.

We are created in His image. That image has been damaged by sin but that does not give us the right to destroy God or a person He has created in His image. Thou shalt not kill.
